Recipes in Dogmatism

2023, Oil on Canvas

Many people seem to struggle with the difference between right and wrong. They accept what they are told without further introspection. For example, many people around me, especially the elderly, avoid eating certain types of food together because they hear it harms their health. Most of these taboos have no scientific basis; they are mental results of excessive hearsay lacking independent thinking and research. As a visual representation of this phenomenon, I place various controversial foods in an infinite grid structure. Adjacent rooms lead to one another through wall openings, which are either clear or blocked with obstacles. A vibrant color scheme exaggerates unreality, while the distorted perspective and foods out of scale further add to a sense of Surrealism.
