Mirage

2023, Acrylic on Canvas

Mirrors. Windows. Screens. Polished boards. Acrylic. Are the mirror images that we see in them merely two-dimensional shadows projected by our figures? And is the fact that we claim our reflected selves as who we are an illusion between reality and imagination? A mirror image holds far more signification than a flat projection. We recognize ourselves by observing our self-image, and, by planting an idealized vision of ourselves in our reflections, repeatedly deconstruct and modify our identities. Then, mirroring no longer is to rely on the presence of reflective objects. In fact, we have never not seen ourselves in others and all things around us, and we have never stopped authorizing and perfecting our values on the call of these mirages.
