My fondest childhood memories are set in the “Longtangs” of Shanghai: the small alleys filled with the bustling of close neighbors and smells of freshly cooked meals has always been a place of invaluable meaning for me. However, when traveling back to my childhood residence, I’m sad to see houses emptied and people moved away, leaving the Longtang pale and deserted. Therefore, I illustrate the cityscape as an homage to this cultural heritage. I trace back to my childhood and portray this drawing in vibrant and surreal colors representing that period of happiness. The dynamic of the colors dilutes traces of time: what’s left is the deep mental connection with my hometown and community.
