Point on the Diagonal Line
2021, Charcoal, Collage
I take pleasure in the bustling crowd around me, attentively observing the things and people as we pass each other by. Therefore, my self-portrait is set in the scene of a bustling downtown. The centered round convex mirror serves as my “viewing deck”: its unique curvature provides me with a broader view and an omniscient perspective. A surreal void crammed with superimposed zebra crossings repetitively fills the outside of the mirror, representing unseen interpersonal relations and intricate social laws behind my observations. I used collage to cut out the silhouette of random passersby on crossings: their diverse prints and wide spectrum of colors imply the complexity and unpredictability of my surroundings.
