Law of the Jungle

2022, Ink, Pastel, Color Pencil

As a user of Shanghai’s food delivery service, I noticed a related social issue: corporations promise a shorter-than-reasonable delivery time to increase business and gain more profit. This results in frequent traffic accidents and enormous work pressure on drivers. I constructed this composition based on the “Drag Pegman” function of Google Earth. The hands are in constant motion, dragging and dropping deliverers to their destinations. Hands, representing the symbol of corporations’ power and control, are enlarged out of scale compared to tiny human figures, who must succumb to the food delivery system. The texture contrast of the structured background map and the rough contorted hands also emphasizes the dilemma of balancing capitalism and humanity.
