I designed a conceptual board game representing the long-lasting challenge of balancing the exploitation of natural resources and the accelerating progress of human civilization. We used to trade the well-being of our environment for city construction and technological development, and now we have to treat the excessive harm imposed on nature instead. I depict this dilemma as the two opposite sides of this game: one side for “Nature Preservation,” and the other for “Civilization Development.” The goal for each is to win by reaching the other end of the map. However, in reality, there may never be a winning side, and the process of playing this game can thus be seen as a simulation of reality.
